Rice, Gates Push for Regional Support of Mideast Initiatives

SHARM EL-SHEIKH, Egypt, July 31 -- In an unusual show of diplomatic muscle, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates met with Arab leaders in this scenic Red Sea resort Tuesday to press for support of the fledgling Iraqi government and President Bush's latest effort to revive deadlocked Palestinian-Israeli peace efforts.
